$$$Mike’s 45 of the Week!

image

2/17/14

Although it may be hard to believe for some of us, the Artifacts’ “Between A Rock And A Hard Place” turns 20 this year!! If you missed this album the first time around you now get to enjoy a reissue of it on colored vinyl with a promotional poster included for the true die hards. So what’s our interest in all of this?? Well, I copped it for the bonus 7″ with the remix of “C’mon Wit Da Git Down” featuring Busta Rhymes, and the “Dynamite Soul” remix on the flip featuring Mad Skillz. Shout out to New Jerusalem, Tame One & El Da Sensai.

1/27/14 “We Can Do It” Dopebrother

The good folks at Dopebrother Records return with their latest release! Originally released between 1969-70,”We Can Do It” by The Freeway is a funk/rock groove that introduces itself with a solid drum break!! Initially a B-Side on the Rama Rama Label,”We Can Do It” gets a Kenny Dope retouch and features the instrumental on the flip. A must-have for all producers and DJ’s who dare to be different.

1/20/14 “Far Out” by Crown Heights Affair

I first heard “Far Out” while working at Rock and Soul. We had just got a new volume from this series called Space Dust Disco Classics so I threw it on to see what it sounded like. I knew it was good when I heard it but I couldn’t believe it was Crown Heights Affair. This company had mislabeled a record in the past and it really didn’t sound like anything the group was famous for. I researched it and found out it was actually them so I bought the album. While I was home one day putting together a few records to play at Mobile Mondays this song popped into my head. I thought people would like it for it’s sound & it had been sampled by Pete Rock, so now had to find the 45. I’ve only seen UK copies of so I had to order it online and here we are.
